May 17, 2008 ANNUAL SHEARING DAY
We invite you to our annual alpaca shearing party. You can be a casual observer or we encourage you to help hands-on with our tradition that began 16 years ago. Bring your grubby clothes and barn boots. See how the "blanket" fleece comes off the alpaca in one piece, is separated and graded for show, then boxed for future processing into yarn. We need volunteers to help hold (actually it's more like a hug) the alpacas, hand pick each fleece, blow each fleece out with a high powered air blower, collect and box fleeces. Individual alpaca fleeces are available for purchase at wholesale prices on shearing day. RSVP and let us know you are coming. Young children are welcome to observe under adult supervision. Hours: 9 AM until done.
